On Monday 29^th June, Northampton West awarded a PHF to Jenny Jeffs, the Principal of Northampton Sailability.   This took place at a regular meeting of the charity; one of three each week during the sailing season at which clients with conditions that impede their ability to take part in sport are assisted in doing so by Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved instructors.

Jenny has been instrumental in the training of instructors, which include Rotarians drawn from a number of clubs in the county.  This includes training in working with people who have various forms of disability.  The number of able-bodied persons taking part in the charity’s role of providing such opportunities is crucial, as they are often required to work on a one-to-one basis.   Thanks to Jenny’s generosity in freely giving her time and skills Northamptonshire Sailability, it is very successful, both in terms of developing approved instructors and in giving the opportunity to sail to a wide range of clients and client organisations.

Rotary has a long-established connection with Sailability, starting at its inception.   Clubs have helped provide many of the specialist yachts needed, together with hoists that permit the transfer of wheel-chair bound clients into and out of the boats.   In June, Rotary GB&I President Peter King visited Rutland Sailability to witness at first-hand how this continuing association is benefiting those in need of support to access this outdoor physical activity.  

Northamptonshire Sailability will be welcoming District 1070 Governor, Geoff Blurton, to their meeting on Monday 10^th August.
