Speakers from Box Youth Project. Host John McLoughlin

Tue, Apr 5th 2016 at 12:45 pm - 2:15 pm

Denise and Lisa returned to tell us more about the particular charity that they run via the Box Youth Project, which arranges visits to The Gambia.

They have been supporting individuals and groups of young people and adults to volunteer in The Gambia since 2010.

They have developed strong links with Gambian schools, voluntary organisations, community groups and families.  They have witnessed at first hand the poverty and deprivation that is widespread in the Gunjur region of the country and have talked to people who live and work there.

Through the relationships that they have built up, they are able to provide volunteers with opportunites to live and work alongside local families and experience real Gambia. Children who visit spend some time in local schools.  The charity is able to help with equipment for these schools which Sunderland schools donate.  For each visit they fill a container load of goods.
