Rotary Club of Henley on Thames presentation to the Thames Valley Air Ambulance
Members of Henley-on-Thames Rotary Club recently visited the Thames Valley Air Ambulance team at RAF Benson to present to the charity a cheque for £3,500 on behalf of the Club.
The donation represented the proceeds of the Club’s Jazz concert which took place in April together with generous bequests made to the Club by three former members, Rotarians Russell Williams, John Searby and Tony Lane.
Thames Valley Air Ambulance has recently taken delivery of their brand new helicopter which is fully equipped for night flying. This is a very exciting time for the charity and air crew. The introduction of night flying will mean the helicopter will be flying longer and, as a result, the cost of the service will increase. It will take a few months of night flying to determine the actual increase cost but currently they fly an average of 3-4 missions a day at a cost of approx. £2,500 per mission.
Katie Whelpdale, Community Fundraising Manager said on behalf of the Trust
“It was so lovely to meet a few of the members of the Rotary Club of Henley-on-Thames on Wednesday 4th November and it was such a surprise to see the amazing donation of £3,500 which was presented to the crew on their visit to RAF Benson. This is a fantastic amount and will certainly help the service especially now we are about to go into night flying. We are all extremely grateful for this donation and thank the Rotary Club of Henley-on-Thames for their generosity.”
The Club has been a long time supporter of the Air Ambulance team and a measure of the importance attached to the occasion was that the President of the Club, Rotarian John Grout was accompanied at the presentation by three Past Presidents, Rotarians Will Busher, Roger Sayer and Barry Prior.
