Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 24th February 2017.
President Alan Rankin welcomed our speaker Anna Cockburn, whose subject was International Citizens Service. Philip Allison appealed for more drivers for the Arion bus as we currently are reduced to only two. Ian Richardson reported on our very successful visit to Castle View school, on which we were joined by members of Stirling Inner Wheel. We were all very impressed by the facilities, and by the level of care and individual attention to the needs of the 29 pupils.
Our speaker Anna Cockburn, ex Stirling High who has a degree in History from Edinburgh University, will soon spend three months in Ghana living and working with local families, providing a variety of help in the community. This has been organised by International Citizens Service, a government funded organisation started in 1980. They operate via already functioning groups, in this case International Service. Anna was attracted to Ghana by the great and varied needs of the population in terms of health, education and lack of basic services. What she will be doing will be decided by the local need, and the family she stays will act as her own family while she is in Ghana. Anna has to raise £1500 herself and she is well on the way to achieving this by organising a variety of fund raising activities. Anna promised to report back to us
on her return. The vote of thanks was given by Bill Bryce. Next meeting
