Xmas Lunch December 2016
Xmas lunch for Rotarians and Guests at Witchford Village Hall (Picture shows President Phil Smith awarding John Riley his 'Paul Harris Fellowship' )
Ely Rotary Club celebrated its 2016 Christmas luncheon on Wednesday 21st December at their Witchford Village Hall venue with over 50 members/prtner/friends present.
A Christmas menu was served after which we were entertained by Harriet Maddox who sang a selection of Christmas carols and songs for a communal sing along.
The special arrangements were implemented by Rotarian Viv Doji, who, as always, presented the Club with everything needed for a highly successful function. Viv put in the hard work arranging the tables attractively and running the raffle with Gillian Brady and generally overseeing the whole show.
During the proceedings, there was a special presentation to one of our members who was awarded Rotary International’s top award, “The Paul Harris Fellowship” for his outstanding contribution to the club and the community. It was in 1977 when John joined the club and over the years he has been president and chairman of all our fund raising committees.
Currently John arranges outings for ERCOT (Ely Rotary Club on Tour), including visits to a Schools Museum at Hitchen, the village of Finchingfield, the English Whisky Distillery, Dads Army Museum, Mid Norfolk Steam Railway and Jordan’s Cereal Mill and recently to Thursford to see the spectacular Christmas Show.
Potential new members, both men and women, are always welcome to join our club which meets on Wednesday at Witchford for a meal and to make friends and join in the fun.
