Rotary Young Chef of the Year Competition

Sat 27th January 2018 at 16.00 - 22.00

The District Final is on 27th January 2018, we wish Channice Marks from Kent College and Daisy O'Connor every success.

Thanks again to Kathryn Wilson and Kent College for all their help and support that allowed us to stage our first Young Chef competition local heat.

A big thank you also to our Head Judge Executive Chef, Christopher Edwards of East Quay Venue, Whitstable for giving up his time and passing on his expertise to the contestants.

The photos are a representation only of all the hard work put in by the four student contestants Channice, Daisy, Reese (all from Kent College) and Max (from Herne Bay High) and whilst there can only be one winner of the heat they should all be extremely proud of their entries. It really was a great morning and I'm so pleased of what they achieved.

The Winner of our round is Channice Marks (the 2nd girl from the left in main picture) who, for her main course, made us individual meat pies served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Her dessert was amazing; Baked Alaska which was glorious in taste, texture and look.

The other entrants are (again, using the same picture from left to right), Daisy O'Connor, Reese Robinson and Max Pashley.

Daisy made us ricotta and egg yolk stuffed large ravioli served in a butter sauce for the main course and then a raspberry & white chocolate cheesecake served with raspberry coulis.

Reese cooked salmon fillet served with a dill & mustard sauce, duchess potatoes and asparagus followed by red berry crumble served with custard.

Max prepared seared scallops with black pudding slices on a pea puree as a starter and then for main served a chicken breast stuffed with ricotta and wrapped in Parma ham along with new potatoes and green beans.

Once again my thanks to everyone involved in the heat and I look forward to Channice and Daisy representing us and Kent College in the next round which will be on the 27th January 2018 at the New Line Academy, Maidstone for our District finals.
