The 10 K run

Tue 1st August 2017 at 18.22 - Sun 31st December 2017 - 23.55

We acted as marshals for the run.

31.07.17  10 K RUN.

The alarm went off at 6 am on Sunday morning, not my usual time to get up o a Sunday. Today, was different because I and others had volunteered to marshall the 10K run. Some even restricted their fluid intake at breakfast.

Along with other Rotarians we gathered at the University Centere on Bargate at 7.30 am. We were told to collect a tee shirt, high viz vest,a bottle of water and a “goody bag”.Ecept for Dennis we had been placed on the “reserve” list. After a briefing John and I were directed to Conyers Avenue(off Scartho Road) and Gordon,Leslie and John (Norman) were directed to the Peoples Park.

Having been a marshall before John and I had taken collapsible chairs because we had to be in place by 8.30 am and had a wait of 1.5 hours. Fortunately the sun was shining and we enjoyed some food from the “goody” bag. As the start time approached  people arrived to cheer the runners on.

The race set off at 10am and the front runners reached us after 10 minutes. Thereafter the others followed depending upon their abilities. After 45  minutes they had all passed.Eventually we were given the signal to leave and I  walked to the Peoples Park and I saw some of the runners arrive.
