Photos of fun over 7 years of the Rotaract Club of St Andrews
Colin Mitchell’s theme was a celebration of Rotaract (a contraction of “Rotary in Action”) which is modelled on the senior Rotary Club but for young adults from 18 - 30 years of age.
Colin has nurtured an ever changing team of students over the last seven years. His talk was particularly apt as Rotaract was first established exactly 50 years ago.
Its members are truly international. Their first president came from Romania. Others hail from all over Europe, South and North America, the Middle East, Africa and India.
To give an idea of their activities, a student from Canada instigated the charming gesture of handing out (90!) roses on Valentines Day.
Examples of how they made money for charity included a sponsored walk up Ben Nevis raising £1200. Another clever idea was to sell reconditioned bicycles, bought for £30 and sold for £65 -£80
The students are always ready to help the parent Club whether serving mulled wine on St Andrews Day or teas and coffees at the annual Christmas Card Sale.
Just the same, they are here to study and Colin showed happy pictures at Graduation of wonderful young people who will carry Rotary’s ideal of Service above Self back to their own communities.
Following an animated question and answer session, a vote of thanks was proposed by John Peacock
