Young Writer Competition 2018
High Quality entries from local youngsters in the first stage of the national Rotary competition
Once again Woolsack Rotary's Youth Committee has organised the local stage of the Rotary Young Writer competition: the first part of a three stage national competition. Entrants had to write a poem or short story on the theme “A different perspective”. We thought that this theme may have proved to be difficult, particularly for the primary school pupils, but were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of entries. Numbers were down on previous years, possibly due to the theme, but we still received a total of 33 entries from Busbridge Junior School, The Chandler Junior School and Rodborough College of Technology.
Judging took place during February. The judges were Nicola Gidlow, Pam Hosegood and Sandra Kendall and the Club is thankful to them for giving up their time to help.
The winning entries were:-
Junior – Sophie Crossley from Busbridge Junior School
Intermediate – Dan Bishop from Rodborough College of Technology
Both winners have been presented with their prizes and all entrants have received certificates to acknowledge their participation. The two winners have been sponsored by Woolsack in the next stage of the competition being organised by Rotary District 1145.
