Report on Council meeting of 7th January

Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 11th January 2019.

VP Ranald Ross-Watt welcomed members to a business meeting following last week's meeting of the club council. It was proposed that we should continue funding the Arion bus, taking handicapped youngsters to swim for the next two years at annual cost of £1700. In addition, donations will be made to the Salvation Army, Rock Talk, the Food Train and Town Break. All were approved as was the transfer of £1500 from the general to the charity account. We will assist the Carse with the qualifying heats of the primary school quiz on the 5th March and will organise the final at Stirling University on 27th April.  We were pleased to hear that a candidate has been identified to attend this year's RYLA camp. A visit to the V and A gallery in Dundee has been organised for 11th February, and in view of our early departure from the Gavel competition, Colin Bayes has arranged an in-club event for 11th February.

Please note next week's meeting will be on Thursday 17th evening 6.30 for 7 pm. There will be no Friday meeting on the 18th January. Our speaker on Thursday will be Professor Adrian Hadland currently Head of Division, Communications, Media and Culture at the University of Stirling.
As a journalist he worked for many years in South Africa, in close contact with Nelson Mandela and the other government leaders and should be able to give us an informed insight on an interesting period of history.  Speaker's host Peter Mehta.
