Thought of the day: ‘The way to get started is to quit talking and begin
doing’ - Walt Disney.
Birthdays this week – None.
Up and coming events:
1) – Whitstable museum this evening, organised by Kathy. Between 6-8pm
at a cost of £5.00 per person.
2) – Gardening at W & T this coming Saturday (5th). Start time 9.30.
3) – Escape rooms 15th October. We really need one more participant to
complete numbers. I will give final details next week.
Our guest this week was Janet West a volunteer for Hearing Dogs for Deaf
People who bought along her cockapoo Bilbo. Hearing dogs is a nongovernment
funded UK charity which trains dogs to alert deaf people to a
variety of sounds. The charities inception was in 1982 and started by Dr
Bruce Fogle (father of Ben Fogle).
Janet started her presentation with a sigh language demonstration and
described being deaf isolating and lonely, all day and every day. Each dog
can be trained differently dependant on its owners needs. Bilbo will alert
Janet on the doorbell, phone and smoke alarm as an example.
Each dog undertakes approximately 18 months of training at a cost of
£45,000.
An interesting presentation and a worthwhile charity.
Any other business: Sue and Kathy are in the early stages of organising a
‘Feel Good’ get together evening with Rachel from Alzheimer UK.
I confirmed the eight brave members sampling my daughters cooking
skills on 30th November. These are Andrew B / Pat, Ron / Irene, David K /
Gill and Robert / Gill. The second evening meal will be on the 18th January
2020.
The raffle was one by Spyros.
Master at arms: Nick was back with his little car who managed to fleece
just about everybody in the room.
He then auctioned a huge butternut squash grown by Spyros. Jean is now
the proud owner who bid £2.55.
A reminder that next week is a board meeting (10th), 7.30 at Sues house.
No visits and greetings this week.
Final toast carried out by Sue
Meeting ended 8.45.
