2019 Technology Tournament
The Rotary Technology Tournament involves teams of young people using a selection of materials to devise a technological solution to a set problem. This combines the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects, with skills such as teamwork and communication.
The Technology Tournament will take place in UTC, Crescent Road. Teams of four students will work from 9 am to solve an engineering problem, using materials provided. No adult help is allowed. At 2 pm, the products created by each team are tested to see how well they work. There are three levels of difficulty to correspond to age groups. Rotarians from many clubs in the District attend as judges (engineering experience required) and as stewards, who ensure that all goes smoothly and safely.
Teachers applaud this event as one that fills an educational need. It is also an excellent way of showing girls (who often are among the winners) that technology offers great opportunities for careers. a
