Welcome new member David MacKay

Rotary club of Stirling meeting of 17th February.

President Sandy Farquharson welcomed members to a business meeting reporting back on discussions at last week's meeting of club council. We were pleased to welcome a new member, Rotarian David MacKay transferring from Huntly. A son of the rock, David's career has taken him as far afield as Hong Kong, then working with Colin Bayes for SEPA, and on retirement to a farm which he has planted up with native trees. Sandy brought sad news of the recent deaths of three former club members, Nigel Cullen, Bill McWalter and PP Ian Dunn.    After discussion at council it was decided to send our contribution to the Australian fire disaster direct to the local Rotary club in New South Wales.  Upcoming events:  The club barbecue will be at Tommy Thomson's on Saturday 6th June, the golf AM/AM at Stirling golf club on 15th May, and a repeat of last year's very successful games night at Malcolm Cordwell-Smith's on 20th February.  On Thursday 21st May we will be holding an evening meeting at the Golden Lion for visiting Dutch Rotarians.  We have been asked by FV Disability Sport for a contribution towards equipment, which were happy to do.  President Sandy continues to work with other clubs, trying to set up a project to help Leprosy suffers in Nepal.  We will join Inner Wheel in their next year's charity, Roll Out the Barrel. This is a well-established Rotary project which makes the daily task of moving water much easier, using a simple and inexpensive piece of equipment.

Next week 24th January. Returned from his extended holiday, the speaker's host is Dr John Rankin.
