JANUARY 2024

Lindum Rotarians collected Christmas trees, for recycling into biomass, in Nettleham, Sudbrooke and Scothern on 8th and 9th January.

ROTARY DINING-IN NIGHT - 19th October 2023

Rotarian Roger Hansard once again came up trumps with his organisation of our 'Dining - Night' held at the Sobraon Barracks on the 19th October. We enjoyed an excellent meat of prawn cocktail followed by roast lamb then the cheese biscuits and port. Our guest speakers were from the BBMF i.e. Pilot Dave Stinton and Flight Engineer Sergeant Andy Lloyd. We had and interesting and amusing talk about the VIP's they had taken aboard the Lancaster on trips abroad. Finally the evening ended with the presentaton of a picture to President Ted Hands of the Lancaster Bomber as shown below.

UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY - 24th August 2023

The Lindum Lincoln Club has been providing support for the Ukraine refugees coming to the UK following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The 24th August has become Ukraine's Independence Day following the Declaration of State Independence In August 1991. Our supported Ukraine families attended a service at the International Bomber Command Centre on Thusday 24th August which involved planting of a Guelda rose which is the national symbol of Ukraine. Rob Wilkinson arranged for the Lincoln Sea Cadets to lay a wreath after the planting of the rose by the children.

SLAM JAM FINALS - 29th June 2023

After 15 years Slamjam 2023 was the last ever event and the Blue Room was packed to capacity to see the final performances.
Ben McPherson a professional poet from Nottingham provided the afternoon workshop for 27 students and later entertained the audience with some of his poems before becoming the MC for the evening.
Schools from across Lincolnshire took part in a much reduced event. Th winner of the Junior KS3 was Emmanuel Aguazam from Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School who gave his thoughts on advertising. The Senior KS4/5 winner was Grace Ojo from Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Alford who spoke passionately about being black. The overall winner who was awarded the Slamjam Trophy for the last time was Ade Goodman,  Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School, who gave her own interpretation of the word “from” which was a superb performance and a clear winner.
Other schools who took part were:
Caistor Yarborough Academy
Priory Ruskin Academy, Grantham
King Edward V1 Grammar School, Louth
De Aston School, Market Rasen
Massive thanks must go to Jan Kemp who created Slamjam in 2008 and has been the driving force for the last 15 years. As over 30 schools have taken part in these years holding their own internal events thousands of young people have had experience of Slamjam but all good things must sadly come to an end.
