Bite and a blether!

Thu, Jan 25th 2024 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Owing to the absence of several members at other events, this week will be a social occasion for banter and blether.

Recently Hawick Rotary has been working with Hawick High School's Miss Alderson on entries for the Rotary Young Photographer Competition. A good number of entries were received and studied by the Club's judging team before the winners were selected by members from the shortlist.

The theme this year was Rebuilding and it was no surprise that entries centred on scaffolding around buildings, the local Flood Protection Scheme, and . . . . perhaps more surprisingly, Lego! There were also several more inventive entries.

The Senior Age Group winner was Sophie Gibbon, with runner-up Burak Karapinar. Sophie's photo was a fine image of the work being done on the steps at the footbridge near Santa Marina Restaurant, while Burak took the opportunity to show the rebuilding of a garden shed, half-finished and with the remains of the former shed in the background.

In the Intermediate Section, Rylee Domingo won with an excellent photo of the new Business Centre which replaces the Almstrong store in Oliver Crescent. The students had to provide a one sentence statement on how their photo related to the Rebuilding theme and Rylee emphasised her photo showed the replacement of the derelict store.

These photos and statements have now been submitted as the local entries for the District 1320 (South and West Scotland) Young Photographer Final.
