Today’s speakers were The Reverend Tim Linkens and June from the Immingham Mission to Seafarers.

After the meal Reverend Tim and June addressed the club. Tim explained that the Mission is Christian based and is a worldwide organisation. They cover all types of vessels, which spend hours or a few days in port, being unloaded. Time is very precious and does not allow opportunity to visit the port/town facilities or families. The Humber ports are the busiest in the UK. There  are 1.5 million seafarers in the world and English is the language of the sea. Contact with the mission can be very valuable.

What do they do? They offer practical, emotional, spiritiual guidance/assistance and free woolly hats in the winter! The work is challenging but of benefit.

June has spent many years at sea on both cargo and cruise ships and illustrated her talk with anecdotes. Her  experience at sea is valuable in helping seafarers and she is a prison visitor.

President Stuart presented them with a cheque for £250.
