President Ron Smith and Secretary Andy Tyler reported on their meeting with representatives of Hawick Common Good Committee, SBC officers, Borders Forest Trust and the farmer at Pilmuir to discuss the local response to Rotary's Plant a Tree project. It is proposed by the Hawick Club that native hardwood trees be planted on the eastern side of Hawick Moor between the top and bottom entrance gates. Planting this wettish area would increase shelter for Moor users and more varied habitat for wildlife. Final approval has still to be obtained but the scheme would need no funding from Common Good, and hopefully would also involve young people in the community in the actual planting.
