Grimsby in Bloom organised a tree planting session in the Duke of York Gardens. These were mature specimens (with an enclosed root ball) and workers from Equans had marked out the area where the trees were to be planted. The money for the trees is from the Government and is designed to replace ones that have been felled. Volunteers were required and we responded! We were informed that trees were 6ft tall but turned out to be 12ft tall!
6 members of the club volunteered for the job (on a cold and windy day, note the warm clothes) fortunately there were 28 other volunteers including personnel from Equans.
A demonstration was given on how to dig a hole (2ft square), deep enough for the root ball, back fill, finally top off with mulch, tree supports and a plastic water reservoir fitted. Water courtesy of Equans.
Children from the local school were also involved.
We planted 5 trees and prepared 4 other holes (ie removing turf, digging some earth out in preparation for children to complete the planting.
