FUN FUND RAISING IN VIRTUAL REALITY

During March the Rotary Club of North Fylde held a fund raising bike ride in virtual reality. Using Zwift training gear 16 people rode the Volcano Climb in the fantasy land of Watopia. Courtesy of being connected through the internet, seven riders who had their own Zwift gear were able to enjoy riding together on the 10th March even though they were in seven different locations. One of the riders joined us from Frankfurt in Germany.

£745 was raised for Rotary’s campaign to eliminate Polio.

Since taking a leading role in initiating the campaign 35 years ago, Rotarians around the world have raised over 2 billion dollars. They have also played a key role in involving governments and philanthropists such as Bill Gates who now adds 2 pounds for every pound raised by Rotary. The result has been a dramatic reduction in the number of cases from hundreds of thousands a year to single figures. Wild polio has now been eradicated from all but two countries in the world.
