Visit to Cavers

Visit to home of our own member for a meal with fundraising opportunity

Hawick's Rotary activities have been quite varied recently. On 28th March we had a social evening at Mansfield House Hotel, when we welcomed visitor George Thorburn who has been living in Carluke. We then thought we were to be employed on 3rd April planting trees up at Hawick Moor as part of Rotary International's Plant a Tree Project, and a squad of helpers from Rotary, from High School, from Escape Youth Group, and from Hornshole Greenway Project had been recruited only for the event to be called off the evening before in the light of dreadful weather forecasts. This turned out to have been a good move! Hopefully the planting will take place later in the month, before the planting window closes.

On 4thApril, members enjoyed a meal at the home of Hawick Rotary Past President Jane Cox at Cavers. This was an excellent evening which gave us a chance to see the conversion of the old building as well as contribute to raising funds for charity.

Members were also delighted to learn that the winner of the Senior Section in our Young Photographer competition, Hawick High School's Sophie Gibbon, had gone on to be placed third in the District Final competition. Rotary's District 1320 extends from Fort William down to Stranraer and from Edinburgh down to Eyemouth, Hawick and Langholm, so: Well Done, Sophie.
