SUITS YOU SIR

In a previous life Past President Graham had been a tailor. When he got to this chapter in his fascinating life story he surprised the Club by offering to make a fully fitted suit for whichever member won the prize. On July 21st 2010 the draw was overseen by President Alan who pulled Michael's name out of the ice bucket. Everyone gathered around to look at the five bolts of best Huddersfield worsted cloth that Graham had provided. Michael choose the window pane pattern and the measurements commenced.

As the members watched Graham described the next part of the process. This would require the involvement of a tailor specialising in what is known technically as CMT (Cutting, making and trimming) We all wait eagerly to see the finished result.

Ten weeks later Graham was back with a lapel full of pins, a tape measure, a tailors chalk and a half fitted jacket. It had been made up by a company in Glasgow and was at the loose stitched stage.

Graham was keen to remind us that it had been more than 30 years since he had last done this. Michael admitted that his aged and overweight body was not the best shape to replicate in cloth.

Graham pointed out how well the check was matched across from the body to the sleeves, but he was not totally satisfied with the shaping of the shoulders so he marked the cloth for further alterations.

A few weeks later Graham arrived with a large box tucked under his arm. Members were delighted with the results but no-one more so than Michael. The suit fitted beautifully and Graham's demonstration of the work of a tailor had provided three fascinating evenings.
