Rotary Youth Speaks is a public speaking competition for young people organised by Rotary.

Three schools entered the Rotary Club of Oswestry's annual Senior round of Youth Speaks at Oswestry Library tonight. The teams taking part were from Moreton Hall, Oswestry School and Walford and North Shropshire College.

Rotary Youth Speaks is a public speaking competition for young people. The object is to give young people experience in speaking on a public platform, to encourage them to formulate their ideas on specific topics and to present them concisely in a limited time, together with the opportunity to learn from the performance of others' high standards of expression, presentation and appearance.

Each team is composed of three young people. The Chairperson welcomes the audience, introduces the speaker and informs the audience of the relevance or expertise of the speaker to the subject of the speech. The Speaker then has six minutes for the address and a maximum of two minutes to consider and answer a question from the audience. The final member is the Proposer of the Vote of Thanks. After this and any applause, the Chairperson closes proceedings.

The topics covered by the speakers included "Headlines", What is Normal?, "The Two Cultures, a Review" and Child Performers.

Chair of the adjudicators, Glenda Evison, said that "all teams acquitted themselves admirably with well-researched, confidently delivered and interesting topics with very few marks separating the scores."

The winners of the competition were Moreton Hall.
