SENIOR CITIZEN'S CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2012On a very chilly day, with ice on the paths, members of the Rotary Club of Houghton-le-Spring welcomed the Senior Citizens of Houghton to a Christmas party and concert. The Kepier Hall was much warmer on the inside as the plates of food were prepared for the approaching throng.
Bernard, who had coordinated the event welcomed everyone. The entertainment was presented by the Houghton Area Youth band under the conducting of Brian Adams.
Because 2012 was the year of the Royal Jubillee the concert was given a Jubillee theme. As well as the usual Christmas songs the band conjured up the mood of the last night of the Proms as everyone sang and waved their flags.
As the applause rang out Bernard presented a cheque to the Youth Band to support their ongoing contribution to music in the community. The tables now filled with colourful plates of food and the party continued.
