Health and Safety Policy Statement

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I) acknowledges that it has a responsibility to ensure that all Rotary Districts and Rotary Clubs within Rotary GB&I are made aware of the essential need to plan and organize all Rotary activities and events in a safe manner. Rotary GB&I is committed to ensuring that all reasonable steps are taken to safeguard the following from risk of injury or ill health resulting directly or indirectly from that activity or event.:-

The participants, members of the public, volunteers, Rotarians and anyone who may be in the vicinity of a Rotary event or activity.

District 1180 is committed to the Rotary GB&I Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the health and safety of its Officers, Rotarian's and the public; it will also provide such information, training and advice as is needed for this purpose. District 1180 accepts its responsibility for the Health and Safety of others who may be affected by its activities or omissions.

The purpose of this statement is to:

1. detail responsibility at District level for Health and Safety

2. describe how District 1180 will discharge its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and associated legislation.

District 1180 will liaise closely with the Rotary GB&I Health and Safety Officer, who has designated responsibility on all matters relating to Health & Safety and a copy of this statement will be included in District Standing Orders

District 1180 is committed to:

l Promoting and encouraging developments of safe practice as the normal acceptable standard for all Rotary events and activities.

l Providing all clubs within District 1180 information and advice to enable them to formulate and implement their own health and safety policies and to provide the same service to their respective clubs.

l Establishing systems and procedures that will ensure clubs have access to up to date information and safety advice when so required.

l Developing and encouraging communication at all levels in order to develop the exchange of ideas and to promote best practice at all levels within the District.

The overall responsibility for safety at any Rotary activity or event lies with the District or Club organising the event. The Executive for each district within Rotary GB&I is charged with ensuring that the District and all clubs in their district develop and put into practice an effective working safety policy.

District 1180 Executive should appoint a Safety contact person who will liaise with Rotary GB&I Health & Safety Officer and other safety representatives in order to implement this policy, they will operate through the District Administration Committee.

The District Health and Safety Officer will monitor health and safety matters at individual Rotary Club level and advise the Rotary GB&I Health and Safety Officer of any significant incidents during the Rotary year, submitting a short report highlighting any issues of specific interest. They will also maintain an Incident log of all incidents reported by clubs.

The designated District Health & Safety Officer will represent the District's Health and Safety interests at District meetings (or other regular forum as deemed appropriate) and investigate and advise on health and safety matters raised within that forum.

The District Health and Safety Officer will be the liaison point for any Health & Safety issues of clubs within the District.
