Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland have teamed with The Stroke Association to offer free blood pressure tests to the public

The aim is to alert people with high blood pressures to the danger of ‘stroke’ and the devastating effect on the individual and their family that a stroke represents

103 people were tested:

1 person was found to have significantly high blood pressure and a GP visit within 7 days was recommended

It is to be hoped that those given specific warnings do heed them!

Fleet Rotary wishes to thank Hart Shopping for its help and support for the event and also thanks the 4 practice nurses, one doctor and one pharmacist for providing their help and medical experise

Fleet Rotary will again provide free blood pressure checks in Hart Shopping Centre to combat stroke on an April Saturday in 2018

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland and the Stroke Association have teamed up to help people stop for a moment and get their blood pressure tested, to raise awareness of the link between high blood pressure and stroke

Over half of all strokes can be caused by high blood pressure.  As well as having a blood pressure check, local residents also received advice on steps to keep it under control and reduce their stroke risk.

Having a stroke can be devastating but people can reduce their risk significantly by paying attention to their blood pressure. Rotary is proud to support the Stroke Association’s Know Your Blood Pressure campaign because it is both simple and effective. The test takes a moment to do and potentially, it could save your life.

In
2016 Fleet Rotary, with the invaluable help of 6 voluntary medically qualified nurses and pharmacists, tested 105 members of the public: 71 presented satisfactory blood pressure results; 32 were advised to see their doctor within 28 days; and 2 were advised to see their doctor within 7 days.

Having a regular blood pressure check is so important. Estimates suggest there could be almost seven million people with high blood pressure who are undiagnosed and at risk of having a stroke. Many people have high blood pressure without realising it because it often has no symptoms. High blood pressure is far more common than you would think and it can be deadly, but it is treatable. With events like this, together we can conquer stroke. In 2016 30% presented blood pressures that indicated more lifestyle care or medical intervention may be necessary.

Fleet Rotary wishes to thank Hart Shopping Centre for again permitting their central concourse to be used for this ‘Service to the Community’
