The competition was held at Ballakermeen High School for the second successive year as they were winners in 2016 and again in 2017.

Winter Hill 60th Anniversary
A ceremony was held at Cooil y Ree Park, St. John's to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Winter Hill plane crash. A memorial event was also held in Horwich attended by a party of 24 from the Island.

Lunch Meeting
Our special guest was Honorary Rotarian His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor. Sir Richard entertained members with a talk highlighting some of the less successful episodes in his diplomatic career.

Summer Camp
Once again the Island's Clubs hosted a party of young people from a wide variety of countries as part of the District Summer Camp. Activities included a ride on the Great Laxey Mines railway and taking part in the Ramsey Carnival.

The competition was held at Ballakermeen High School who were 2016 winners. All 6 Secondary Schools competed and the standard was extremely high. The eventual winner was Ballakermeen High School - two years in a row!

The competition was held at Marown School who were the 2016 winners. 8 teams competed for the Shield this year and after the usual high quality competition the victors were Ballacottier. Arbory were 2nd and Marown 3rd.

Lunch - Business Meeting
Our guests at lunch today are Mark Lalor-Smith with his parents Julian & Sara and his siblings Terence and Courtney. Mark will be presented with a Junior Recognition award for his efforts in raising £3,000 to buy Shelterboxes.

For the first time in its history, the Club will have a stand at the Royal Manx Show, highlighting the Club's involvement in the local community and on the wider world stage.

World Polio Day 2014
To mark World Polio Day our Club held a special lunch on 22nd October at which we put on show 2 Iron Lungs and also unveiled the football strips which the Ellan Vannin team will wear endorsing the End Polio campaign. Two iconic buildings were lit purple.

End Polio Day at Scoill yn Jubilee
Douglas Primary School, Scoill yn Jubilee raised funds for End Polio by holding a cake sale and Dress Purple Day. Thanks to the hard work of the cake bakers and the enthusiasm of the staff, pupils and their families £890 was raised - fantastic.

Annual Quiz competition between the 5 Manx Rotary Clubs. After a hard fought competition the winners for 2013 were defending champions, Rushen & Western Mann. Congratulations to them, commiserations to Douglas who were a close second again.

End Polio Public Collections
Club members (together with some additional family members) made collections in the Strand Shopping Centre and outside Shoprite/Iceland in Market Street from 9.00 am until 4.00 pm as part of End Polio Day. A total of £400 was collected - a great effort!

On the menu today is Thai Crab & Noodle Soup followed by Duck and Prawn Chow Mein or Poached Cod. The winning team from CRHS will attend lunch and reprise their winning performance in the recent Intermediate Public Speaking Competition.

For 2011 Douglas Rotary Club is focusing on getting our message into the local Secondary Schools and the IOM College, including KWC & Buchan. During February 6,000 school children will hear about Rotary's campaign to End Polio Now.
