About us

The Stockton Club is one of 32,000 in 180 countries that make up

the service organisation, Rotary International.

Rotary, whose motto is - "Service Above Self", was
founded in 1905, and now has over 1.2 million members world-wide.

Our club has 19 members, both men and women from business and the professions. But we're always looking for more people to join us, to bring fresh ideas to the Club, to extend our friendships and to help in our fund raising activities.  You will be the kind of person who wants to serve your local community and the wider world.  As a member, you would have opportunities for personal development, to partake in and be part of Rotary's values, to experience the difference that membership can make to your own life and, through fund raising activities, the difference you can make to the lives of others less fortunate.

We meet once a month to conduct any necessary business, to enjoy a meal, usually with a speaker, and to enjoy each other's friendship.

Our President, Alan Rutter, extends a warm welcome to visiting Rotarians, guests and potential members, to attend any of our meetings.

Through our fund raising events, concerts, social evenings, etc., we support various local charities such as the Billingham and Stockton Food Bank and Butterwick Hospice;  national charities such as Marie Curie  Cancer Care; and international projects such as the Rotary project PolioPlus which, with the WHO and large donations from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is making a final push to eliminate polio from the world.  Another important Rotary project is ShelterBox - each box contains a tent, blankets and utensils for 10 people for six months and provides emergency shelter after natural disasters, such as the Asian tsunami and the Haitian earthquake.
Deserving local individuals, such as those doing voluntary work abroad, may also be helped.

Other local activities include the sponsoring of young people in leadership training and the provision of transport for elderly people in Stockton.

But members also have fun:  social events such as golf competitions, games nights, BBQs, etc., are regularly organised and much enjoyed by members, their families and friends.
