The Rotary Club of Yatton and District welcomes you to its web pages. We are sure you will find it interesting and give you an insight to your local Rotary Club.
Yatton is a large village situated in North Somerset and some six miles east of Weston super Mare, a well known holiday resort. Yatton's population has grown over the past few years and is now in excess of 9,000 It has become a sought after location to live for people working in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
The origin of the name Yatton is uncertain. It may come from the Anglo-Saxon 'gatton' meaning 'village on the track'; the track in question is a path of limestone leading from Cadbury Hill The village has at one time or another been called Jatune, Eaton (from ea (river) and tun i.e. the settlement on the River Yeo and Yatton Blewitt, and is recorded as Lature in the Doomsday Book
The Yatton skyline is dominated by the Church of St Mary and can be seen from many miles away.
Yatton is situated on a main railway line with good services to London, Bristol and Weston super Mare. Trains to the north of England can be accessed via connections at Bristol.
