About us

I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Scarborough since moving to Scarborough in 1994. I joined Rotary in 1989; my mother club was Saltburn-by-the-Sea.

Rotary is a remarkable organization where you can make new friends, contribute to your community, and give back to society. The Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” clearly defines what Rotary stands for. Putting service to others before your own needs is deeply rewarding.

The Rotary Club of Scarborough has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years for Scarborough and its surrounding areas. Below are some of our main fundraising and community events held each year:

Christmas Santa Collection in the town centre
Young Technicians Tournament, open to all schools in our area
Sponsorship of Year 12 students for the RYLA Course (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
Scarborough Open Air Theatre Street Collection
International sponsorship, including PolioPlus, ShelterBox, and WaterAid
Christmas Carol Service
And many other events and projects

Rotary is an organization that brings out the best in you. Participation is flexible—you are not required to be involved in everything. However, the more you engage, the more rewarding your experience becomes.

We host four or more events each year that include wives, husbands, and partners, fostering fellowship for everyone. Being a Rotarian instills a sense of confidence and pride. It is truly humbling to present a local charity with a financial donation, as it reinforces how Rotary can transform lives.

As President, and on behalf of future Presidents, I warmly invite you to join our club. Let us embody the motto “Service Above Self.”
