The Rotary
Club of Aboyne and Upper Deeside was founded in 1982.
In line with the catchment area for Aboyne Academy our geographical boundaries in and around the Upper Deeside area extend from Braemar in the West to Lumphanan in the East. Logie Coldstone and Tarland to the North and to Finzean in the South. Aboyne is of course in the centra of this catchment area, hence the name.
Our Club encompasses a large part of the Cairngorms National Park which is of course an area of outstanding natural beauty, Royal Deeside is renowned for its golf, cycling, walking, mountain biking trails, gliding and, of course, salmon fishing.
It is entirely understandable therefore why the Royal Family have chosen to holiday on our patch for many years! Both Balmoral and Birkhall are situated here in Upper Deeside.
We are a growing Club (particularly since COVID) with an increasing and significant number of both female and younger members which has been described as “punching above its weight” by visitors and Rotary District Committee Members alike. Our club recently received a Rotary Citation declaring that with a Net Increase of 6 members over 23/24, we were the winner of the Top Membership Increase award.
Since COVID broke the mould, our club has taken the opportunity to embrace new and fresh attitudes to many aspects of being a Rotarian, including making our social get togethers more flexible and far less formal. The only dress code required by our current President for instance is that club members wear an identifier (badge or embroidered T-shirt for example) this is to allow new members and visitors to identify them and feel more relaxed.
We generally get together on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Monday of each month, and following the Covid pandemic we have taken the opportunity to make our meetings more flexible.
Currently we routinely meet at the Spider on a Bicycle café in Station Square Aboyne. On occasion we are served a meal however we very often choose to enjoy coffee and cake. Thus the financial burden is significantly lessened for all concerned.
As previously stated the club welcomes new members from all walks of life. Its principal objective is service to others and if you support this aim, please get in touch with a Club member, or use the contact form in this web site.
We meet on Mondays at 19.00
