Local Charities Benefit From 2015 Annual AM/AM Golf Competition

Local charity Dumfries and Galloway Society for the Deaf recently benefited to the tune of Â£2,000 courtesy of the generosity of local golfers participating in the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District"™s annual charity golf competition.

Thornhill and District Rotary Club Held it's 2015 Annual AM/AM Golf Competition on Friday 17th July 2015 @ Thornhill Golf Club

Local charity Dumfries and Galloway Society for the Deaf recently benefited to the tune of £2,000 courtesy of the generosity of local golfers participating in the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s annual charity golf competition played over the Thornhill Club course. As usual the event was well-supported with one hundred and sixty golfers taking part.

The competition which raised just over £4,500 on the day was generously sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP), Sanquhar Tile Services, AMD Contracts Ltd, Dumfries - based Merlin Office Ltd, the Thornhill Inn, Homer Burgess, accountants Farries Kirk and McVean, local solicitors Pollock and McLean, Thornhill’s 101 Boutique, Avon Cosmetics and the Scottish Building Society; with donations from Alba Printers, Cadham Consultancy, G & J Irvine, Penpont Garage and Ian Lewis (Plumbing and Heating).

A special feature of this year’s event was the opportunity to win a brand new JCB mini – excavator for a hole-in-one at the first hole of the course, courtesy of local heavy equipment contractors AMD Contract Services. Sadly at the end of the day no golfer managed to rise to the challenge and drive off with the digger.

Rotarian Brian Hunter of the organising committee said ‘We are delighted to have been able to raise this magnificent sum of money. We are most grateful to our sponsors and those who made donations. Without their support we would not once again be able to organise this very successful event.’

The other headline charity this year was Alzheimer Scotland which benefited to the sum of £1,000, with the remainder of the cash being set aside to support other local charities over the coming year.
