The Members of the East Kilbride Rotary Club were delighted to have as their lunch time speaker last Friday, Mr. Norrie Gallagher, from Sporting Memories. Norrie spoke on how his group gave talks to people with dementia about old football players from their era, along with showing them old photographs of these players. This stimulated conversation with the dementia sufferers as it took them back in their long term memory. They would even start arguing who was right. This is a wonderful adjunct to the work that is being carried out in dementia research. Other groups carry out similar classes with music, old films, singing old songs and talking about the old days.
East Kilbride Rotary Club is closely involved with the Dementia Care Group in East Kilbride and has raised much needed funds over the years for the group. As a thank you to Norrie the Club presented him with a cheque for a £100 to help continue theexcellent work they are carrying out. Also at the Club on Friday, Immediate Past PresidentIan Macpherson intimated to the Members that the Board of the Club were considering
offering Honorary membership to Rotarian Dr. Henry Doig, an announcement that was greeted with sustained applause.
