Being President of a Rotary Cub at the best of times can be a challenge but during a Covid-19 Pandemic it could be impossible.
With Phil Westlake at the helm Chelmsford Mildmay Rotary Club has found an activity through which they can meet their joint targets of both supporting the environment and serving the community while still following all Covid restrictions and still maintain a sense of Fellowship.
This year the club has involved itself several times in Litter Picking in and around Chelmsford.
Linking up with LYC, (Love Your Chelmsford) and Keep Britain Tidy, members, assisted by volunteers from Mildmay Inner Wheel, have done several ‘sweeps’ alongside the River Chelmer, the Bunny Walks and other areas around the city.
Armed with grabbers and plastic bags they have walked in sunshine and in drizzle cleaning up the community areas of the city centre and beyond.
Passers-by are often very appreciative of what these intrepid volunteers are accomplishing
There is always time afterwards for a coffee and debrief, leaving members with a sense of a job well done and ready for the next time.
