Starting off with a sandwich lunch, the 22 teams of four then headed out on to the course for a full 18-hole round of golf, returning to the clubhouse around five hours later for a two-course supper and the presentation of prizes. After a very closely fought competition, two teams finished top of the leaderboard with a Stableford score of 122 points, with Three Men and a Lady very narrowly beating last year’s winners, The WAGGs, on a countback! The Albawls and The Brightsiders came joint third, both with a still very commendable score of 121 points.
The John Lawrence Memorial Shield for the highest individual score of the day was awarded to Vaughn Harman, with a very impressive score of 42 points.
Following on from the golf competition presentations, Rotarian Adrian O’Loughlin auctioned off two rounds of golf for four people, at Effingham Golf Club and the RAC Golf Club, which, together with various other fundraising activities throughout the day, including a tombola and £50 note raffle, helped to raise over £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK, the club’s main charity for the year.
Leatherhead Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who so generously supported this year's event, by way of team entries, sponsorship, programme advertising and donation of tombola prizes, and also Kall Kwik in Leatherhead for very kindly printing the Golf Day programmes.
