Local Rotary Club donates £7,500 to MND Association!

Altogether, a total of £7,500 was raised for the Branch, primarily from the club’s three main fundraising events throughout the year; a Big Band Concert at Leatherhead Theatre, a 10k Run across Headley Heath and the club’s annual Charity Golf Day at Effingham Golf Club.

Branch Chairman, Simon Edmands, said he was very grateful to everyone who had supported the Rotary Club’s events throughout the year, adding, ‘This fantastic amount will play a huge part in helping our Branch to continue its vital care and support to local people living with Motor Neurone Disease.’.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressive terminal neurological condition which kills, on average, six people every day within the UK. It can leave people unable to walk, talk or even feed themselves, whilst their mind and senses invariably remain unaffected. Average life expectancy from diagnosis is just 14 months and, as yet, there is no cure or effective treatment.

The East Surrey Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) provides care and support to around 60 people living with MND throughout the East Surrey area, as well as helping to fund vital research into the disease itself.
