Cancer is a word that carries so much weight — because behind it are people we love, people we’ve lost, and people still fighting.
I have chosen Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the Cut Out Cancer campaign as my charities because, like so many others, I’ve seen the impact of cancer up close. The fear, the uncertainty, the strength it demands — not just from those diagnosed, but from families, friends, and carers standing beside them.
What we don’t often see is the incredible work happening behind the scenes — the long hours in labs, the years of clinical trials, the quiet persistence of researchers, scientists, and medical teams who dedicate their lives to saving others. It’s easy to overlook, but their work is the reason we have hope. It’s the reason treatments keep improving, survival rates are rising, and futures that once felt impossible are becoming possible.
CRUK represents that hope. It funds the science, the research, and the breakthroughs that give families more time, more options, and sometimes, the precious gift of survival. Every discovery they support brings us closer to a world where fewer people have to hear the words, “you have cancer.”
Rotary Cut Out Cancer Campaign is close to home — a campaign raising money for advanced surgical equipment at Royal Surrey’s new cancer centre. This facility will change lives across Surrey, Sussex, and beyond — offering more precise and less invasive surgeries, reducing waiting times, and giving patients the best chance at recovery.
I chose these two causes because they give people a fighting chance — because they represent progress, compassion, and community.
This is personal. It’s for everyone we’ve lost. It’s for those still here. And it’s for a future where cancer doesn’t win.
I warmly invite you to attend our upcoming events and talks, where you’ll learn more about the powerful work being done.
If you can, please consider donating — every contribution, big or small, helps bring us closer to a world where cancer is no longer a life sentence.
