3 of our Rotakid schools took part this year and we had our best outcome to date in that the overall local winners in each competition, (Dana of Warwick Bridge school and Harper of Irthington Village school) also won Rotary’s District competitions. Whilst they were not winners of the national competitions, this is the first time our club has had entries submitted for that.
We used independent judges for both local competitions, who attended some of the prize giving. One of the judges, John Langley, put together a poem (see below) as part of his presentation to the schools.
The photo is from the prize giving at Warwick Bridge Primary School, and of Harper’s Young Artist entry.
Worth a Go
By John Langley
What is this in my hand?
How was it written? I don’t understand
Where did it come from? I really don’t know
She just started to write it, and let the words flow
An idea had come into her mind don’t you see
And to tell you the truth, just between you and me
It was a good idea, and she took the time
To write it down, and make it rhyme
And now here it is, held in my hand
I just had to read it, and thought it was grand
It told a good story, in an interesting way
The rhythm was clever, cos it made the words sway
And after I read it, I said it was good
And her face lit up, as I’d hoped that it would
Now everybody I think, can do this too
And by everybody, I of course… mean you!
