This year’s afternoon tea celebrating VE day was a real success with so many people saying how much they had enjoyed the occasion. A total of 83 tickets were sold with proceeds close to £1000 (including £315 made from the raffle) going towards Rotary supported charities. The entertainment was provided by the versatile Ashlea Lauran, who sang songs from the 1940s wartime period encouraging us all to sing along with her. After a break for afternoon tea and the drawing of the raffle, she returned to sing more songs, but this time songs from the 1950s and early 60's. I'm sure most of us returned home feeling we had had a lovely afternoon and looking forward to next year's music and afternoon tea.
