Westwood Farm Schools’ Complex Needs Resource Enjoys Day Out

Westwood Farm Schools' Complex Needs enjoys our annual day out at Beale Park.

On Friday 20th June, twenty children and twenty-two adults from Westwood Farm Schools’ Complex Needs Resource and Infant School enjoyed a memorable day out at Beale Wildlife Park, generously funded by the Reading Matins Rotary Club.

The Complex Needs Resource, based within the grounds of Westwood Farm Primary School, supports children with complex needs and/or autism. Having only opened last year, this marked the resource’s very first off-site trip — a milestone event for both the children and staff.

For many of the children, it was their first visit to the park, offering a host of exciting new experiences. For others, it was a special opportunity to enjoy familiar surroundings in the company of peers, parents, and staff — something rarely possible in their everyday routines.

Blessed with sunshine and bright smiles, the day was packed with joy and adventure. The children delighted in watching the animals, jumping high on the inflatable pillow, and later exploring the play area and enjoying a scenic ride on the park’s train. Their enthusiasm was infectious — and had most of the adults happily worn out by lunchtime!

The day ended on a sweet note with everyone enjoying a well-deserved ice cream — the perfect conclusion to a truly unforgettable outing.

“For some, this was more than just a day out. It was time for parents just to be with their child, with other adults, making great memories, which are so precious. Staff had a wonderful time too, seeing the children challenge themselves and show themselves to be the determined and adventurous young people they are.” said Natasha Howlett from Westwood Farm School Complex Needs Resource. “This would not have been possible without the kind support of The Matins Rotary club and everyone on the visit that day would like to give the biggest thank you to the members of the club and those that support them.”
