Rotary Youth Leadership Award

Sponsored by Tameside Rotary Grace Williams attended RYLA course at Hebden Hey

We were delighted to welcome Grace and her family to our monthly meeting to  hear about her amazing and fun experience of attending a Rotary Young Leaders Award week long camp at Hebden Hey organised by District 1040. She was sponsored by Tameside Rotary.

Whilst navigating frogs at night and despite being woken up at 6.25 am to rousing music played at full volume, Grace and her fellow campers undertook an intensive range of activities from mountain rescue, mask painting, hikes,  obstacle course, raft building, murder hunt and designing and building a traverse!

Was it worth it?  Grace said: "Absolutely! I realised I could connect with people from all backgrounds. Looking back on my journal notes and the course leader's comments,  I can see I entered the camp feeling quite  shy and a bit reticent.   I left feeling energised, more confident and knowing that I have shown I can take on leadership roles.  It was an unforgettable experience".

Rotarian Derek thanked Grace for her very engaging presentation giving praise for her natural confidence and ability when giving the talk and answering questions.    President Mike commented on the importance of young people being given the opportunity to develop their skills and the many opportunities provided by Rotary through their young people award schemes.
