Members of Knaresborough Rotary Club were treated to a very confident presentation by Ella Grooby, a young member of Knaresborough Silver Training Band. Accompanied by Nick Garrett, Musical Director of the Knaresborough Silver Band, and member of Knaresborough Revolution, Ella updated the Rotary Club on the Training Band’s progress.

The Training Band is unique to the area in that it includes members of all ages who have joined to play brass instruments. The band’s Musical Director, Katie Bell has successfully created a team of dedicated musicians who practice, and play music together. These ‘trainees’ are joining established members of the Knaresborough Silver Band in concert performances at public events in Knaresborough and in competitions held further afield. Recently they won the North of England Brass Band Championship Section 4, and will play in the final of the National Brass Band Championship in Cheltenham later in the year.
The Training Band includes multiple members of several families. Ella values the friendships she has formed since she has been in the band, as well as the advice and help she and other younger players receive from their older mentors. New players are always welcome.
Knaresborough Rotary is proud to be associated with these ambassadors for our town. Rotary has supported the Training Band with grants from the Waugh Trust, which have helped to purchase music sets, stands and smart all weather jackets. We wish the Knaresborough Silver Training Band and the Silver Band continued success in their musical adventures.
