Ripon Minster's first organist, Thomas Litster, was appointed in 1447 and Howard Crawshaw described his life and times at the Club meeting this week.
Among aspects mentioned were Litster's role in teaching music as well as playing the organ, the commitment of choristers who were expected to cover 8 services each day 7 days a week and the likely siting of the Grammar School where the present Cathedral Hall stands in High St. Agnesgate.
The AGM next Tuesday starts at 7 for 7.30 at the Ripon Spa Hotel. All future Club meetings will be held at the Spa Hotel.
There is no Club meeting on May 4th following the Bank Holiday.
