Meriden Rotary Club’s Annual Charity Golf Day

The Rotary Club of Meriden held its Golf Day on Monday, 19th May at Maxstoke Park Golf Club. This is an annual event, and the funds raised go towards sending disabled children from Woodland School in Coleshill to join ‘Kids Out Day’ at Twycross Zoo. This year we will be sending 131 children and 66 carers to the event, which has become one of the highlights of the school year.

The event attracted 15 teams of four players, and the competition was very close. Apart from prizes for the winners, there were prizes for the closest to the pin and the longest drive. The weather was ideal, sunny but not too hot. There was a shotgun start around this beautifully kept course, and after the competition ended, an excellent meal was provided by the club for all the players. The club’s meeting was changed from Tuesday to Monday so that we could join the meal. There was also a raffle with good prizes, which was well supported by the players. During the year, our organisers gathered donations from other golf clubs for four-ball games, including this year, a round on the Brabazon course at the Belfry and a round at Blackwell, one of the most prestigious courses locally. These were auctioned after the meal.

The final costs are not all in, but it is looking like another very successful event.  We must thank Maxstoke Park Golf Club for allowing us to use their excellent facilities, the friendly golf club staff who made all the visitors feel welcome, our Rotary club members who organised the event and of course, all the players who came along to support a very worthy cause.

The event will again take place in 2026 on Monday, 18th May at Maxstoke Park Golf Club. For golfers, it offers a great day out to play a superb course, and teams of Rotarians and non-Rotarians will be very welcome. It will start with bacon rolls for all the players and a shotgun start at 1pm. There will be prizes again for nearest to the pin and the longest drive, as well as a raffle and, of course, a very nice meal before the presentations and another four-ball auction after the match. The cost will be unchanged from this year at £200 for a four-ball team, and everyone will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped disabled children. Note the date and come and join us.
