Perth City Secondary Schools Bake off Competition 2024

Taste of Perthshire Bake Off’ 17th May 2024

On Friday 17th May, 2024 eight contestants from three Perth secondary schools kept their cool and competed at the Rotary Club of Perth “Taste of Perthshire Bake Off” competition.  The S1 to S3 pupils came from Bertha Park, St. John’s Academy and Perth Academy and each baked and decorated a 6 portion dessert, tart or cake to specifically include local Perthshire strawberries. The strawberries were generously donated by Stewarts of Tayside.  Each cake or dessert was different and the judges were very impressed with their creations.

The event was held at Perth UHI and the judges were Mr Neil Mugg (Former Pastry Chef at Gleneagles Hotel and full time Chef Lecturer at Perth College) and Mr Bill Montgomery (Perth Rotarian and past Master Baker) and Mrs Anna Martin (Perth Rotarian).

After tasting, reviewing the decoration and taking into account their overall baking practices the winner was Martha Honeyman from Perth Academy.

The judges were impressed by all the competitors so well done to them.  The Rotary Club of Perth would like to give huge congratulations to Martha for a very well baked cake that incorporated the strawberries in a clever way, tasted and looked fantastic

The standard of baking was high and the competitors’ creativity was excellent.  What was also important was how they worked at the baking station.

This is the fourth of this now annual competition run by the Rotary Club of Perth for the Perth Secondary Schools giving pupils the opportunity to show case their baking skills and develop their confidence and experience.  The Rotary Club of Perth would like to thank UHI for their continuous support of the event and expertise in judging this competition.

The competitors were:

Bertha Park: Soha Sameer, Logan Knight

St. John’s Academy: Plamana Ivanna, Zuzanna Ignatuk, Lexi George

Perth Academy: Beth Ross, Martha Honeyman, Anja Habicht
