High School Bake Off Competition

Perth High School, Perth Academy and Bertha Park compete in the Bake Off Competition

Delicious and beautifully decorated strawberry cakes and tarts were baked and presented by nine pupils from Perth High School, Bertha Park High School and Perth Academy at the annual Perth Rotary Schools Bake Off Competition on Friday 23rd May, 2025

All of the competitors had already passed through a heat within their own school to compete at Perth College UHI under the direction of Neil Mugg, Chef Lecturer and Bill Montgomery, Master Baker and member of the Rotary Club of Perth.

In the end the winner was Kacey from Perth High School with her traditional family recipe for a Chocolate and Strawberry cake.

The feedback from the judges:  Neil, Bill, lecturer Ype Van der Schaff and Anna Martin, Vice President of the RCoP was that the standard of baking was very high and increasing year by year.  The cakes on show were truly impressive.  Each pupil was commended on their success and the silver platter was presented to winner Kacey.

This was a tough competition with the judges scrutinising six criteria:  Appealing to eye, Originality, Balance of Components, Ease of Eating, Flavour and  Work Practices.

The pupils clearly enjoyed the experience and went home with not only their delicious cake/tart but also a gift from the Rotary Club of Perth.

Thanks go to all involved and Stewarts of Tayside for the delicious berries.
