Rotarian Graeme Card and his old School chum – Martin Sullivan, walked part of the Portuguese Camino to raise funds for Cancer Research in October 2023. They wanted to raise money for good causes and what better cause then Cancer Research in memory of friends and loved ones.
Martin did the walk in memory of his first wife Sharon and sister-in-law Helen, who both died far too young in their mid-50's. Graeme's raised funds in memory of one of our much-loved fellow Rotarians Barry Tomkins. Sadly, Barry lost his long battle with cancer recently and as he and Graeme had done another Camino some years ago, it felt right to do this one in his memory and to also raise some much-needed funds for Cancer Research.
What a fantastic feeling it was too, to have reached the end of the walk, just over 101 Km or 63 miles, in six days, from Vigo to Santiago and the legs were still in pretty good shape by the end!
Thanks to the generosity of club members and friends, £1,250 was raised for the walk with the Club doubling this to £2,500 which was presented to Makyla Devlin the local official fundraiser for Cancer Research UK
