                                                      Rotary Club of Cheltenham North

                                                                       July 2025 Bulletin

From our President David Hearle

Two weeks into my Presidency and I have certainly brought fine weather for you all. Too hot actually if truth be told!

Thank you for your warm welcome at Handover a fortnight ago. I believe a picture of Nigel and myself (with the Chain of Office) will be posted on our website shortly.

Just a word of thanks to the departing Duncan with the sincere hope he can return in the not too distant future.

See you all at the Queens on the 7th July.

Farewell

There seems to have been a mass exodus of club members with the coming of the new rotary year. We say farewell to Mike Bone, Bill Macleod, Maureen McVitty, Peter Watson and Anne Wilson. Fortunately, Maureen and Peter will still be ‘friends of rotary’ and will attend at least 6 meetings a year, They both continue to sit on the Wine Festival Committee. Then sadly Duncan Ivory felt he needed to resign due to concern about his health and with the recent loss of Geoff Fox ad Roger Grimshaw our numbers are very reduced. If anyone has any ideas how we can increase our membership please speak up and discuss with Tony Pawley who is in charge of membership.

We will miss all these past members and wish them all the very best for the future.

Garden Party

As you are aware we made the decision to cancel the garden party on 2nd August due to Vivien having surgery on Friday 1st August. Duncan kindly agreed to play at a later date and Sue Jenkins offered to host the event in her garden. September was thought to be a god idea as Vivien should be well enough to attend by then

Unfortunately John & Beth are away for the proposed date in September and as they are key players we cannot go ahead without them. So, we are in a quandry of where we go. Do we just cancel and try again next year, or do we go back to the original date but hold it in Sue’s garden. I would welcome your comments.

I would also like to thank all those who offered to help in any way.

Duncan Ivory

Duncan was one of our newest members and very quickly became involved with many rotary events. He sat on the concerts committee and his musical knowledge was invaluable. He also took over the meal orders and dealing with the Queens hotel, set up the sound system for our meetings and seemed to have contacts for anything we needed. His resignation will leave a huge gap in our membership. We thank him for all that he has done and hope he may decide to come back at some time in any capacity he feels he can manage.

Belmont School

You may remember the club gave a grant of £500 to Belmont School and this is their reply:

Last term we were able to purchase and install the large rotating skateboard for our sensory room, this was made possible by the funding we received from the Cheltenham North Rotary Club Community Grant, thank you so much.

The skateboard has made such a difference to so many and is used daily!

Attached photographs of skateboard in use, thank you again for all your support.

Kind regards & sincere thanks

Becky and Ruth
