The role of a Rotary Club Youth Convener is crucial in engaging and supporting young people through various Rotary programs and activities. Their responsibilities typically revolve around the following key areas:
1. Developing and Implementing Youth Programs:
The Youth Convener identifies the needs and interests of young people in the community and implements programs that encourage their participation. They organize and coordinate Rotary youth-focused projects and events, such as:
· Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA): Facilitating participation in RYLA events that develop leadership and communication skills in young people.
· Youth Competitions: In partnership with our local Academy, organizing participation in Rotary's youth competitions in areas like public speaking, music, art, photography, and technology.
· Primary School RotaKids Clubs: Sponsoring and mentoring RotaKids clubs in conjunction with district Primary Schools. These clubs are designed to raise awareness of local and international issues and develop projects to address or ameliorate them, while simultaneously instilling the Rotary ethos of fairness, truth, goodwill, and friendship.
· Other Rotary Clubs for Young Adults: Including Interact Clubs for students aged 12-18, Rotaract Clubs for young adults aged 18-30, and Rotary Youth Exchange for inbound and outbound youth exchange programs.
2. Liaison and Communication:
The Youth Convener serves as a key point of contact between the Rotary club and young people, schools, and youth organizations. They also liaise with the Rotary district's youth service committees and participate in district-level youth initiatives.
3. Mentorship and Support:
On a practical level, the Youth Convener provides guidance and mentorship to young people involved in Rotary programs. They actively encourage the personal and leadership development of youth participants.
In essence, the Youth Convener acts as a champion for young people within the Rotary Club, ensuring they have opportunities to develop their potential, engage in meaningful service, and become future leaders. They play a vital role in connecting Rotary's values and resources with the energy and aspirations of the younger generation.
Perhaps oner of greratest successes most recently was when our club nimoinated Torin Liversedge for a Young Citizen Award 2025. Torin won the GB and I National Award, which he had the privilege of picking up in Lonon at a prestigiousl ceremony. What a fine example of our Youth and can do attitude.
