An Economist by training – after graduation Tony worked as a financial analyst for HJ Heinz at their head office in Hayes W. London (wonderful) before moving to the HO of IBM IN Chiswick (a ghastly nightmare). He then spent a decade in the corporate planning dept. of Tarmac plc in Wolverhampton - a great period which saw him working all over the UK as well as France, West Germany & the USA.
Tony moved to Moffat in 1981 and worked in the family owned hotel but then soon set up a retail & wholesale wine merchant business in Moffat until he retired on 31st August, 2009.
Apart from ringing Tony’s other main interest is working as a volunteer on a preserved steam railway in mid-Wales where he leads a small team specialising in the repair & conservation of 19th century slate structures.
Tony learnt to ring in 1960 at Dunham Massey in NE Cheshire (now Trafford); in London he rang at Ealing Broadway and in Wolverhampton at Pattingham - a small village to the west of the city. He had to stop ringing in 1981 when he moved to Moffat but resumed at the start of 2014 with the opening of St. John the Evangelist in Dumfries.
