Moffat Mountain Rescue Team was formed in 1969 and is celebrating its 50 anniversary this year. There are 29 members (all volunteers) on the call out list and we are on call 24/7/365. In 2018 we dealt with 20 incidents involving 1910 hours of team time. These incidents ranged from dealing with 2 lost walkers on the Southern Upland Way in difficult snow conditions to assisting drivers on the M74 when the region was hit by the “Beast from the East”
Colin Mitchell joined the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team in 1984 and has served as deputy team leader, team leader, chairman and secretary. He led the team during the aftermath of the Lockerbie air crash. He was head teacher at Dumfries High School from 1990 – 2005. Colin is married with 2 sons and 4 grandchildren
